Apple & Cheese Grilled Sandwich

Classic comfort food with a delicious and bold spin! Guys this is so good! Simple, flavoursome and that gooey melty cheese hits the spot!

The sweetness of the apple pairs beautifully with the sharpness of the cheddar.  It also comes together so quickly and uses minimal ingredients - which is always a #mumwin

Hemp hearts add protein, iron and omega 3 fatty acids to this simple lunch. 

Sourdough and whole wheat bread are my go to’s for this!


Prep: 5 mins

Cook: 5 mins

Serves: 1 adult & 1 toddler

Suitable From: 6 months +

What do you need?

1 apple

1/2 cup grated or sliced cheddar cheese

1 heaped tap hemp hearts

4 slices bread of choice

1 tbsp butter

Then....

Heat up your skillet or sandwich maker.

If serving this to babies and young toddlers, grate the the apple and then mix with the cheese. If serving to older children, slice the apples into very thin slices.

Butter the outside of each piece of bread. Spread the apple and cheese mixture onto the bread or if using apple slices, first sprinkle on the cheese and then the layer over the thin slices of apple.

Sprinkle on the hemp hearts.

Top with another slice of bread.

If cooking on a skillet, cook each side of the sandwich for a couple of minutes, until golden brown. If using a sandwich maker, cook per the instructions.

Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
