Upgraded PB & J Sandwich

PB & J is a classic combo and many a childhood favourite! Here is a little upgrade which ditches the added sugar, and instead loads up on fibre, omega fatty acids, magnesium and calcium from the chia jam.

The cute heart cut outs are of course completely optional but a fun twist for Valentine's Day! My son loved digging into these! 

This is a great nutritionally dense snack or even lunch as it is loaded with healthy fat, protein and a plethora of vitamins and minerals. 

 

Prep: 5 mins

Cook: 0 mins 

Serves: 2 servings

Suitable From: 8 months 

 

 What do you need?

4 slices of bread

2 tbsps peanut butter

2 tbsps chia jam 

 

Then...

  1. Layer a slice of bread with 1 tbsp of peanut butter followed by 1 tbsp of chia jam. 
  2. Top with another slice of bread, cut and serve!

 

For heart cut outs:

1. Use a large heart cutter to cut out a heart shaped piece of bread. 

2. Layer with 1 tbsp of peanut butter followed by 1 tbsp of chia jam. 

3. Using a large heart cutter, cut out another heart. Then using s smaller heart cutter, cut a small heart into the big heart. 

4. Use the heart outline to "sandwich" over. 

 

NOTE: Always spread peanut butter in a very thin layer.  If serving to babies reduce the peanut butter to 1 tsp to ensure the layer is very thin. 

If serving to babies cut the sandwich into long finger width strips
