Leaf Soup

Leaf Soup

This activity takes a few minutes to set up and is great to build fine motor skills, engage in imaginative play and extend vocabulary. It is also a reflection of the colours and swirling leaves of fall.

Z absolutely loved this sensory bin and played with it for about 2 hours! He started with pouring and mixing the soup. There was lots of discussion surrounding colours, temperature and flavour of the soup.

He later asked for a measuring cup as he needed to measure out his ingredients!

We added in some extra bowls and items throughout. I always let him lead and add whatever he likes.

I hope your little one’s enjoy this simple activity too!

What do you need?

A large tub

Warm water

A few drops of red and yellow food colouring

Acrylic leaves

Mixing bowl

Whisk

Serving spoon

Splash mat

Then...

  1. Add the warm water to the tub and add in the the food colouring. Swirl together until it’s well mixed.
  2. Pop in the leaves and it’s ready! I like to leave the utensils and bowl on the side so he can decide what he’d like to do first!
